As I said earlier this month, the main thing I love about real estate is working with people. Part of that for me is the ability to do nice things for my friends and clients. This time of year, my favorite way to show my appreciation is with one of my favorite things – Girl Scout cookies. Giving out Girl Scout cookies are, for me, a two-for-one deal. I get to remind my clients how much I value them, and I can support a worthy organization making a difference in the lives of young girls in our community.
The key too is giving them out in person whenever possible. Sure, those boxes ship, and I could include a nice note, but that defeats the purpose. Gifts are about marketing – take a look at your refrigerator magnets, or your set of coffee mugs if you don’t believe me. Most of those were “promotional items” (aka gifts) given to you specifically so you would remember a brand. Appreciation demands effort – looking someone in the eye and saying “thank you for supporting me” has an effect that a email or a phone call can never have. That effort shows that you care and, honestly, leaves a much stronger impression.
