One of the central beliefs at Go Realty is reinvesting in our community. All of us realize that our success is based on our friends and neighbors trusting us to help guide them through the sale or purchase of their homes. We try to honor them by taking a portion of that money and returning it to our community. Each of our agents donates $100 from each transaction to the charity of his or her choice. Over $75,000 was donated last year from Go Realty to various non-profits across the Triangle.
Last year, my charity was the Scholarship Fund of Boy Scout Troop 451 – the Troop my son belongs to. They use the Scholarship Fund to help low income boys take advantage of everything the Troop has to offer- and that’s a lot. Last year, members of the Troop went to the Jamboree in Japan, The National Jamboree in West Virginia, a month-long trip to Alaska, to Niagara Falls as well as several local camping trips. One of the Troop principles is that no Scout should be excluded from any activity solely because of lack of funds. The Scholarship Fund makes that possible.
This year, all of us at Go Realty were challenged with an even loftier goal. Our sister company, Garman Homes, announced they were going to build the 2014 Miracle Home for Duke Children’s Hospital. As part of that, they also announced a $200,000 pledge as part of the MIX101.5 Radiothon. That was a Big Audacious Goal, and they asked us to be a part of it.
How could we say no? This is the kind of project that really does make a dent in the Universe. At the same time, however, I didn’t want stop supporting the Boy Scouts so it was time to step up. For 2014 I’ve pledged that $50 from every transaction will go towards the Garman Homes $200,000 pledge. that $50 will be matched by Go Realty, just like they do with all of my transactions. In addition, a second $50 will go into the BSA Troop 451 Scholarship Fund. hopefully that will be $1500 towards Duke Children’s Hospital and $750 to the Boy Scouts. That’s enough to make two small dents in the Universe.
